It was seven years ago that I went on my first Year 5 Tarifa residential trip – it was amazing then and continues to be today. This year group is now in Year 11 and ready to make their next big journey just as the current Year 5s are moving to Sierra Blanca. Therefore, for me, this year’s trip had a degree of sentimentality with it.

As usual, it was nonstop fun packed adventure from start to finish. For most the highlight was the beach day: the leap of faith; meditation on the dunes, swimming in the sea; flying kites; and beach Olympics. For Gabriela, in Y5AJ, the best part was visiting the ancient Roman Ruins called Baelo Claudia. We both share a love of a series of books called the Roman Mysteries written by Caroline Lawrence. It was wonderful to hear her say to me, “Miss Anne, I’ve read about the Forum in the story but now I can actually see it!”

Others managed to amaze us with a spectacular talent show including dancing, acting, comedy show and singing. For all of us, I think eating ice creams was a definite favourite! How did we fit this all in? We returned to school exhausted but happy and very proud of the behaviour of this exceptional group of children.
